I know that to achieve these goals it will be hard and take time but, I know it will pay off. I believe to achieve this goal I have to accept that I am growing and take the responsibility with it. I will not change myself for others but stay true to myself. I will start to act like my age, instead of staying as the little girl that I want to stay forever. I need to start to take responsibility for everything that comes with being in High School. Just as Griet in this passage she realizes that she she can't just walk away from her job because her family needs the money and she needs to take responsibility and help provide for her family, "'If I did that,' I replied, 'you and Father would not eat for two weeks...'"(pg 137) I feel this shows how she has grown up from the beginning because she didn't want to accept that she was going to live and work for a new house.
Griet sees herself more mature because at the beginning of the book she wouldn't even talk to Pieter and by the end she started to spend time on Sundays with Pieter. She realized that she needed to settle down with a husband. During this part in the book it is ten years in the future from where they left it off and we are about to see what path that Griet decided to choose, "As soon as I began working alongside Pieter they switched butchers... Pieter never asked for it. 'It's the price I have paid for you.'" This shows that Griet decided to take the more grown up path and I would like to be able to pick the grown up path whenever I have to make a decision in stead of taking the easier route. As I achieve my goal I wish to stay true to my self to take the grown up path, that helps others and not just me.
